Monetary policy and economic fluctuations in a sticky-price model

چکیده
This paper examines a simple monetary optimizing model with sticky-prices. Two types of monetary policy rules are considered: constant money growth rules and interest-rate feedback (Taylor-type) rules. In the case of constant money growth rules, we show the existence of limit cycles through the Hopf bifurcation theorem. On the other hand, in the case of the interest-rate feedback rules, we show that active monetary policy leads to the determinacy of equilibrium path, while passive monetary policy induces economic fluctuations. © 2006 Elsevier B.V. متن کاملModelling the Heterogeneous Price Setting Behavior of Firms (DSGE Approach)
Despite the empirical evidence of the difference in the degree of price stickiness of goods and services, in the new standard Keynesian models, the same price stickiness is considered for all firms producing intermediate goods. In recent years, a new generation of pricing models has been introduced to simulate the heterogeneous price setting behavior in which, unlike standard pricing models, th...
متن کاملDiscussion of “Limitations on the Effectiveness of Forward Guidance at the Zero Lower Bound”
What should the monetary authority do when prices are sticky? One answer to this question is provided by the standard New Keynesian model of sticky prices. It says that optimal monetary policy should fully stabilize the long-term price level in many environments. For example, if all fluctuations are in the “IS curve,” then the optimal monetary policy under commitment is simply for the short-ter...

In particular, monetary rules which either include or exclude exchange rate stability as a monetary...
